- the collide show-awesome idea from scott and the other peeps at collide. they catch you up on some culture news, new media toys, and feature an interview with barton damer. (barton did all the graphics for it as well. really dig the bright color usage)
- my dad really surprised me with this post. great stuff pop.
- i linked the video here, but fellowship church dropped their album this week “closer to the start.” from the audio sample (press play at top of page on closer to the start.com), it sounds KILLER. i usually hate when a church cuts an album, because it’s either lame originals or they copied 12 of somebody else’s songs. this is all original studio content. and it sounds FUNKY. can’t find it in itunes, so go buy it HERE
- i’ve always enjoyed The Bible being viewed as a story, and that’s exactly what chris seay, brian mclaren, and several other writers have done with the new testament (as well as individual books). it’s called “the voice”. check it out, see the gospel of john as a sample. or buy it HERE
- this will probably be the only political who-ha i post. in no way do i agree with anything howard stern stands for, but this is interesting:
i know there’s some of you that feed your minds with my ramblings via google reader and the such. i’ve had some rss changes in the past few days, so let me know if you experience issues.
also, i’m adding a subscribe by email deal that i’ll have up somewhere hopefully soon.
cheers

churches going mobile
Published October 14, 2008 church , technology 1 CommentTags: mobile church websites
no i’m not talking about churches without a building. that post is coming some other time.
i’m talking about churches with a mobile web site. it seems like only the “heavy hitters” in the corporate world are doing it. churchmarketingsucks already talked about this briefly this summer. i’ve been doing research for a class on the future of the internet, and everything points to mobile. not to mention a little thing called the iphone. does it come down to a question of you’re target audience, and whether or not they’d benefit from it? or is every single person within at least 10000000000 miles be considered you’re “target audience?”
personally, i spend more time surfing on my phone than i do on the computer during the day. a phone is certainly a lot easier to carry around.
wouldn’t it be cool, while you’re eating dinner, to be able to see what time handbell practice is? here is how it can be done, sometimes as simple as a plugin.
cheers
awesome series teaser
Published October 13, 2008 church , video's Leave a CommentTags: national community church
national community church new series is, actually not new. it’s re-used and it’s entitled “the elephant in the church.” it’s their “hot topic” series, discussing topics in the church nobody wants to talk about. they first ran it in the fall of last year. this is the NEW series teaser for it.

cayalyst 08 is going on right now, and unfortunately i’m unable to attend. (really bummed i missed jon foreman). but even though i’m not there, i’m catching all the high points.
- catalystbackstage-recap and interviews and everything else in between from catalyst 08
- tweets-check out what all the twitter peeps at catalyst are buzzing about HERE
- tony morgan- he’s live blogging every speaker using scribblelive.com
- dave stagl-north point’s audio director posted some pics from catalyst at monitor world and (from other pictures the PA looks to be a FOH d&b audiotechnik c-series (which is awesome) also have heard and really dig their j-series)
- really cool pic HERE of the catalyst stage design. really dig the overhead screen
totally un-catalyst related-
- churchrelevance-really cool stuff from the lifechurch.tv team called churchmetrics. basically, once it goes live, its a free app for churches to track trends: baptisms, giving, and attendance etc. you will want to see this
- boston.com-their big picture stuff is cool, this post has some cool photos from above the earth
- our chief engineer wrote an article for tvtechnologies.com about the model 46 audio interface from studio technologies we’re using as apart of our comm lines to help tie us together across our different venues. check it out HERE
- ken wilson-visual director at NewSpring Church linked an awesome video from NIN (nine inch nails) recent tour. i’ve been hearing buzz like crazy about how technologically incredible their outing has been. the video makes all that buzz make sense. it’s so intense it’s sick. check out momentfactory to see the rest of their work.
just a couple weeks remain, and my birthday list continues:
several weeks ago, while i was in dallas for the echo conference, i went ahead and bit the bullet. and bought a pair of THESE for a great price. you seriously hear music on another level. well i stole an idea from my friends at the justin cofield band. justin uses (last i knew) shure e5’s with a sensaphonics custom sleeve. since my e2’s, i’ve hated the yellow foam tip, so i can’t wait to try out these molds. and after talking to an acoustic designer that said this was the best sounding earphones/headphones he’s heard bar none, it was a no brainer. (considering i already have an appt to get the molds done, this is pretty much a done deal. it’s on my list to get financial help to cover the cost.)
obviously not everybody’s an audiophile like me. but if you want a step up from the cheapies, then you will definitely want to check out all of the shure earphone line.
cheers
i got this from collide’s on-going “stop using media”-pt2 (here’s pt1)
this goes without saying-if you’re going to do media: please please please don’t do it badly. the church already has enough of that. (there’s a whole website devoted to making fun of church media and how usually it’s terrible called churchmarketingsucks.com) (for the incredible church media, see barton damer) if you simply don’t know how to do it well, there are literally thousands of online tutorials on everything photoshop/after fx/and every other editing software under the sun. it’s do-able, it just takes time. so PLEASE take the time.
cheers

THIS is why google sent them here. whats the weirdest thing you’ve searched in google?
